Past Perfect continuous Tense – जिन हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में , रहा था , रही थी , रहे थे आदि शब्द आते है तथा किसी कार्य का भूतकाल में जारी रहना पाया जाता है वहां Past continuous Tense होता है He,she,it एकवचन कर्ता (Singular subject) तथा I,you,we,they बहुवचन (Plural) कर्ता के साथ Had been तथा Verb की 1 form में ing लगते है (Certain) निश्चित समय के लिए Since तथा (Uncertain)अनिश्चित समय के लिए For का प्रयोग करते है

Sub+ Had been +Verb I +for, since+Time)
Example – सीता सुबह से बाजार जा रही थी – Seeta had been going to market since morning .
Example – हम दो बजे से छत पर घूम रहे थे – We had been walking on the roof for two hour .

Negative Tense (नकारात्मक वाक्य ) –He,she,it एकवचन कर्ता (Singular subject) तथा I,you,we,they बहुवचन (Plural) कर्ता के साथ Had Not been तथा Verb की 1 form में ing जोड़ते है तथा (Certain) निश्चित समय के लिए Since तथा (Uncertain)अनिश्चित समय के लिए For का प्रयोग करते है

Example- सीता सुबह से बाजारनहीं जा रही थी – Seeta had not been going to market since morning .
Example – हम दो बजे से छत परन हीं घूम रहे थे – We had not been walking on the roof for two hour .
Interrogative Tense (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य ) – Interrogative Tense में क्या,कब,क्यों,कैसे,कितना,की अंग्रेजी सबसे पहले आती हैअगर प्रश्नवाचक शब्द वाक्य में सबसे पहले आया होतो उसकी अंग्रेजी नहीं लगते हैI,you,we,they बहुवचन (Plural) कर्ता के साथ Had been तथा Verb की 1 form में ing लगते है (Certain) निश्चित समय के लिए Since तथा (Uncertain)अनिश्चित समय के लिए For का प्रयोग करते है अंत में प्रश्नवाचक चिन्ह ( Question mark ) लगाना कभी नहीं भूलें
(Had +sub+not been +Verb I +for, since+Time )
(What,when,why,how,+ had +sub+ been +Verb I +for, since+Time )
Example – क्या अध्यापक सुबह से नही पढ़ा रहे थे -Had Teachers not been teaching since morning .
Example –रश्मि तीन घंटे से अंग्रेजी क्यों पढ़ रही थी – Why had Rashmi been learning Engliah for three hours

Use of Past Perfect Continuous Tense

The Past Perfect Continuous Tense is used to describe an action that started in the past, continued for some time, and ended before another past action or time.

Structure:

Subject + had been + Verb (-ing) + Object + Time reference

Examples:

He had been studying for two hours before the teacher arrived.
They had been playing football since morning.
She had been working at that company for five years before she quit.

When to Use Past Perfect Continuous Tense?

1. To Show Duration of an Action Before Another Past Event

 When an action continued for a period of time in the past and finished before another past action.

Example:

  • I had been waiting for the bus for 30 minutes before it finally arrived.

  • She had been learning French for two years before she moved to France.

2. To Describe a Cause of a Past Action

 It explains the reason for something that happened in the past.

Example:

  • He was tired because he had been running.

  • Her clothes were dirty because she had been painting the walls.

3. With Time Expressions (Since, For, Before, Until, When, By the time)

 Common time expressions used with this tense:

  • Since (specific time) – “She had been waiting since morning.”

  • For (duration) – “They had been talking for an hour before the teacher arrived.”

  • Before/Until/When – “I had been living there for five years before I moved.”

Negative & Interrogative Forms

Negative Sentence:

Subject + had not been + Verb (-ing) + Object
He had not been sleeping well before the exam.

Interrogative Sentence:

Had + Subject + been + Verb (-ing) + Object?
Had she been working there for long before she resigned?
Had they been studying before the teacher entered?

Conclusion
