Shall का प्रयोग First Person के साथ Interrogative Sentences में दूसरों की इच्‍छा जानने के लिए किया जाता है
Example-  Shall I open the door.
आज्ञा प्रतिज्ञा या धमकी को व्‍यक्‍त करने के लिए मध्‍यम और अन्‍य पुरूषों के कभी-कभी Shall का प्रयोग किया जाता है
Example-   He Shall not enter my house again .
Shall का प्रयोग भविष्‍य की घटना, कार्य या परिस्थिति को बताने के लिए किया जाता है
Example-   I Shall buy a bike next month.
Shall का Past Form “Should” होता है
Will का प्रयोग सभी Persons के साथ सम्‍भावना व्‍यक्‍त करने के लिए किया जाता है तथा will not का प्रयोग इन्‍कार बताने के लिए किया जाता है
Example-   He will be in the park.
Will का प्रयोग First Person के साथ दृढ निश्‍चय, धमकी, चेतावनी, वादा, इच्‍छा, बतलाने  के लिए किया जाता है
Example-   I will never speak to her.
Will का प्रयोग निर्देश तथा अादेश बतलाने के लिए किया जाता है
Example-  You will deliver the welcome speech
Will का प्रयोग Second और Third Person के साथ Interrogative sentences में Formal Request को बतलाने के लिए किया जाता है
Example-   Will you bring ma a glass of water please ?
Will का Past Form “Would ” होता है

How to Use “Shall” and “Will” in English

“Shall” and “Will” are modal verbs used to express the future tense, promises, offers, and obligations. However, their usage has evolved over time. Let’s understand how to use them correctly.

 Traditional Rule for Future Tense

 Simple Future Tense

  • Traditionally, “shall” is used with “I” and “We”

  • “Will” is used with “You, He, She, It, and They”

Examples:

  • I shall go to school tomorrow.

  • We shall visit the museum next week.

  • He will complete his project on time.

  • They will come to the party.

Note: In modern English, “will” is commonly used for all subjects.

 Expressing Strong Determination

  • To show strong determination or certainty, the usage of shall and will is reversed.

Examples:

  • I will never give up! (Strong determination)

  • You shall complete this task today! (Command)

  • He shall be punished for his mistake! (Certainty)

 Making Offers, Promises, and Suggestions

  • “Shall” is often used in formal English to make offers, suggestions, and promises.

Examples:

  • Shall I help you with your work? (Offer)

  • Shall we go to the park? (Suggestion)

  • You shall get a reward for your hard work. (Promise)

 Expressing Legal or Formal Obligations

  • “Shall” is commonly used in legal documents, contracts, and official statements to indicate obligation.

Examples:

  • The tenant shall pay the rent by the 5th of every month.

  • Students shall not use mobile phones in class.

 Modern Usage: “Will” is More Common

In modern English, “will” has almost replaced “shall” in daily conversations. “Shall” is mostly used in formal contexts, legal language, and polite questions.

Examples:

  • I will call you later. (Instead of “shall”)

  • We will visit grandma this weekend.
